Overview of Melafix Properties and Uses

MelaFix liquid is a breakthrough antibacterial remedy that uses a derivative of the Tea Tree to treat bacterial infections in fresh and saltwater fish.

Rapidly repairs damaged fins, heals open wounds and ulcers, stops mouth fungus, and treats fin and tail rot.

MelaFix is safe for all reef aquariums and live plants. MelaFix causes rapid growth of new fins and tissue in as little as 4 days of the first treatment. It is also safe for scale–less fish, fry, and invertebrates.

API MelaFix liquid will not affect pH, stain the water, or harm the biological filter.

Size: 8 oz. treats 480 gallons of aquarium water.

Instructions:

Add 1 teaspoon of MelaFix for every 10 gallons of aquarium water. Repeat dose daily for 7 days. After 7 days make a 25% water change.

Melafix – a natural remedy

The nice thing about Melafix is that it is an all–natural botanical solution. That makes MelaFix super easy for fish to absorb without any dangerous side effects. The source of healing properties of Melafix is Tea Tree (Melaleuca) – its health benefits have been known for centuries.

Dealing with bacterial and fungal infections in aquarium fish is a constant struggle for aquarists. That's why having a natural, effective remedy like Melafix is so important. Remember, however, that keeping aquarium water clean, properly conditioned and free of accummulations of debris or uneaten food will go a very long way towards preventing any infections in the first place.

Healing Properties of Melafix

MelaFix contains powerful antibacterial compounds which treat the wounds and cause rapid healing of tissue. Healing and regeneration of the tissues can usually happen as quickly as after 4 days of treatment. MelaFix also helps with regrowth of damaged fins and tissue. During testing, where fish had lost all tail and dorsal fins, MelaFix restored both fins entirely to their original state. MelaFix heals the wound and restores damaged tissue.

Upi may want to know, though, that MelaFix does have a pretty unpleasant smell. Even people who complain about the smell, still praise its effectiveness.

Safety of Melafix

In laboratory studies it was shown that MelaFix is safe for even the most delicate fish such as tetras, discus fry, and scaleless fish like the clown loach. MelaFix can be applied to all marine fish. Even repeated use on sensitive clownfish fry proved safe. MelaFix has been tested and found to be harmless also in reef tanks with invertebrates such as live coral and anemones.

MelaFix is also safe for the biological filter in the aquarium. It will not change thw color of the water nor stain any of the decorations. Melafix also does not affet the water pH levels and is does not pose any danger to live aquarium plants.

Melafix interaction with other products

You can safely use Melafix with any aquarium water conditioners made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. That includes Stress Coat, Ammo-Lock and Tap Water Conditioner

MelaFix does not collide with water quality test kits, either. You can use MelaFix with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Super Ick Cure™, Fungus Cure™, and General Cure™.

Melafix controversy regarding use with Bettas

Some people experience problems using Melafix with Bettas and warn about the dangers of using Melafix with any labirynth fish (like gouramis and Bettas). Others have successfully used Melafix for years with Betta fish. Among them are also experienced Betta breeders. It may have something to do with the dosage. You may want to investigate dosage reccommended for Bettafix. These two products have the same ingredients, but Bettafix has only .2% concentration of melaleuca so it is five times weaker.

And then there are people who say you shouldn't use any medications at all. They swear by clean water, warm temperature, some salt and nothing more. You will have to make your own decisions based on what your Bettas respond to best and what you feel comfortable with.

What you are dealing with here are just opinions. There is no evidence or proof that Melafix is dangerous in any way. After all, it isn't even an antibiotic, but merely an antiseptic, and a natural one and a mild one at that. You simply have to consider that every organism is different and even Bettas will differ from one another and respond differently to different treatments.

Keep in mind that when people reach for products like Melafix, their fish are suffering from something. Perhaps it's something more serious, something that needs an antibiotic, a fungicide or an antiparasite. If that is the case, your fish will obviously not get better. It may deteriorate, but why would you think it was from Melafix and not the underlying disease which went untreated? There is no way of knowing unless necropsies are performed on the fish to prove the cause of death.

Always be careful with dosage. Even too much salt will kill your fish!
